SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (AP) The second round of the PGA Championship will resume this morning at Whistling Straits after yesterday’s play was suspended by darkness. Matt Kuchar (KU’-chur) is the clubhouse leader at 8-under, one shot ahead of Nick Watney. Phil Mickelson was six shots back following a 69, and Tiger Woods was 1-under through six holes of his second round when play was stopped.

BROOKLYN, Mich. (AP) Kasey Kahne (kayn) has captured the pole for tomorrow’s Sprint Cup race at Michigan International Speedway. It’s Kahne’s second pole of the season and the 18th of his career. Jimmie Johnson qualified second, followed by Clint Bowyer, Tony Stewart and Juan Pablo Montoya.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) Scottie Pippen and Karl Malone headlined last night’s induction ceremony at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Pippen and Malone also were part of the 1992 Olympic Dream Team that was inducted at Springfield, along with the 1960 U.S. Olympic team.

ATLANTA (AP) Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones says he won’t retire without trying to come back from season-ending knee surgery. Jones spoke yesterday for the first time since the team announced Thursday that he tore his left anterior cruciate ligament and will miss the rest of the season. The 38-year-old Jones says he will go through the rehab process following Saturday’s surgery before making a final decision on his future.

UNDATED (AP) San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman has ended his holdout by signing a one-year tender with San Diego for nearly $3.3 million this season. Merriman had been staying away from training camp because he apparently wanted assurances he won’t be traded. And the New England Patriots have placed defensive end Ty Warren on injured reserve after he missed most training camp practices and Thursday exhibition game.
