(AKRON)–Three Sioux City teens are in custody after a robbery at Akron about seven last night.
The clerk at Casey’s General Store in Akron called 911 to report that two males robbed her of an undetermined amount of cash.
Someone who saw the robbery followed the vehicle east out of Akron and then south on Plymouth County Road K-13.
The driver tried to make a left turn onto county road C-38, but lost control and went into the ditch.
Three people fled from the vehicle, but were arrested by Plymouth County Sheriff’s Deputies and Akron Police. A fourth person is still being sought.
Those charged with felony robbery are 16-year-olds Arturo Perez and Fernando Perez and 15-year-old Carolina Perez. She was taken to the Youth Emergency Services juvenile detention center in Cherokee. Fernando and Arturo Perez were held in the Plymouth County Jail.
Authorities were assisted by Hinton Police, the Iowa State Patrol and Woodbury County Sheriff’s office.
(AKRON)—The National Weather Service Flood Warning for the Big Sioux River at Akron is still in place.
The river is expected to fall to a stage of 18.6 feet by Saturday morning. That level is about two-and-a-half feet above flood stage of 16 feet.

The positive attitude and professionalism Beth Peters brings to her work at Jeneary Dental Clinic were recognized this (Friday) morning with the Chamber honor.
Peters has worked at Jeneary Dental for the past 23 years. A nomination for Beth described her as an expert in dealing with insurance companies and someone who has helped patients receive maximum benefits from their dental insurance plans.
Peters is a Le Mars native who graduated from Gehlen Catholic School. She and her husband, Chuck are parents of four children and grandparents to nine.
The chamber noted her family-oriented focus has included Jeneary Dental Clinic patients and staff as her extended family.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) A $120 million casino being built just across the South Dakota border in northwest Iowa soon will begin a push to fill hundreds of jobs.
The Grand Falls Casino Resort near Larchwood is expected to open in late May. General Manager Sharon Haselhoff said that the company plans to fill more than 500 positions through job fairs this month in Iowa, South Dakota and Minnesota, starting in Sioux Falls on April 17.
The resort with a casino, events center, hotel and eventual golf course will employ more than 700 people. It’s hiring at a time when many parts of the region are suffering from higher-than-usual unemployment rates.

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) South Dakota Lottery officials say a winning Powerball ticket worth $10,000 in Wednesday night’s drawing was sold in Yankton.
The ticket matched four of five numbers and the Powerball to win the game’s third prize. The odds of winning are 1 in about 723,000.
The winner has about six months to claim the money.
Powerball is played in 42 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The jackpot sits at $187 million. The next drawing is Saturday.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) A proposed redistricting map pairs four of Iowa’s five congressmen and about a third of legislators, but lawmakers are indicating they may approve the plan.
Although it would prove troublesome for many of them, legislators seem worried that if they reject the first map, the second one might be even worse.
Veteran Democratic legislative staffer Ron Parker says 27 House members and 14 senators are paired under the proposed map. He says that’s about half the number tossed together the last two times the Legislature approved districts.
Parker says Friday that many Republicans and Democrats assume there could be even more pairings if lawmakers reject the proposed map.
The Legislature is scheduled to vote on the new map in mid-April after holding hearings next week.
ATLANTIC, Iowa (AP) The father of a wounded U.S. Army soldier from Atlantic says his son suffered a medical problem and likely will be delayed in returning to the United States.
Mick Allen told Atlantic radio station KJAN that Spc. Nathan Allen apparently suffered a collapsed lung while being loaded onto a plane in Germany.
Mick Allen had reported earlier that his son was expected to fly back to Fort Gordon, Ga. on Thursday night.
Authorities say Nathan Allen was struck by small-arms fire on Tuesday during operations in Afghanistan’s Kunar Province.
The 23-year-old Allen is assigned to the 101st Airborne Division.
CLINTON, Iowa (AP) A woman who was working as a para-educator at Clinton middle school has been fined $200 for punching a student.
The Clinton Herald reports 28-year-old Amanda Schepler pleaded guilty in court on Tuesday.
Court records say Schepler was hit in the face on Feb. 16 after the special-needs student threw a shoe. The records say two other para-educators saw Schepler punch the student in the left upper thigh and say, “Get her out of my face before I hurt her.”
It’s unclear whether Schepler remains employed by the district. A public phone listing for her could not be found. The district superintendent didn’t immediately return a call from The Associated Press.
KALONA, Iowa (AP) Authorities have released the name of a 31-year-old woman whose body was recovered from a vehicle that was found upside down in a ditch full of water near Kalona in eastern Iowa.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office identified her as Joey Ann Miller, of Kalona.
Sheriff Jerry Dunbar says it appears she lost control of her vehicle, which was spotted in the ditch Wednesday night. The vehicle was on its top in about 3 feet of water.
He told the Washington Evening Journal that it looks like she drowned but that the cause of death hasn’t been confirmed.
GOWRIE, Iowa (AP) A west-central Iowa school district has taken a novel step to replacing its retiring superintendent: It intends to hire two.
Deb Doyen (DOY’-ehn) is board president for the Prairie Valley Community School District in Gowrie. She told The Messenger of Fort Dodge that the board plans to employ the superintendent of the Manson Northwest Webster Community School District to handle her district’s finances. And her board wants to employ the superintendent of the Southeast Webster-Grand Community School District, to handle her district’s curriculum.
She says that if all three school boards approve the hiring plan, Mark Egli (EGG’-lee) and Launi (LAH’-nee) Dane Dane will start their work for Prairie Valley on July 1.
The Prairie Valley district would pay part of Dane’s and Egli’s salaries.
