(LeMars) — Governor Branstad is bringing his Jobs for Iowa tour to Kingsley. The governor and lt. governor have scheduled a stop at the Kingsley Community Center on Tuesday, at 5:15 p.m.
Kingsley is just one of the 12 towns the Governor plans to visit in a three-day swing through western Iowa promoting the legislative successes, and to listen to Iowans about the economy. The tour is open to the public.
(Danbury) — Plymouth County may have missed most of the rain and the storms from yesterday afternoon, but in southern Woodbury County near Danbury, reports indicate an afternoon storm produced hail the size of golf balls. Ed Ortner serves as the manager of the Crop Production Services, a local fertilizer dealer. He says the storm was spotty with some farmers having a lot of damage, while others suffered only minimal damage.

Ortner says there will be some crop losses as a result of the hail, but he doesn’t believe there were very many farmers that suffered a total crop loss.

Ortner says the rains were a welcomed blessing, since it had been dry, but he says the hail certainly was not needed.
(LeMars) — Plymouth County Sheriff’s department has arrested an 18-year old Hinton woman for identity theft. Courtney Bras was placed into custody on Thursday for allegedly stealing a credit card and using it to make several purchases in Sioux City. Bras did not have permission of the credit card owner to use the card. She is charged on four counts of identity theft, which is an aggravated misdemeanor. Bras is being held at the Plymouth County jail on a $2,000 bond.
(Le Mars) — Earlier this week we had mentioned about the Plymouth County Chapter of Pheasants Forever had acquired 156 acres of western Plymouth County ground in the Loess Hills to be used for public hunting purposes. Bob Puetz (Pitts) is the local chapter’s president. He says the county conservation board approached Pheasants Forever to help acquire the land.

Puetz says suitable hunting ground is becoming more difficult to find, due in part to landowner liability and the reduction of wildlife habitat from expanded crop production. He says that’s why Pheasants Forever likes to secure ground for public hunting.

In the coming weeks, Pheasants Forever will be making an announcment regarding a parcel of land that is to be donated to the local chapter.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – The body of a man found in a burned home in Warren County has been identified as one of the homeowners reported missing since the house was destroyed by fire last month. The Iowa Department of Public Safety says in a news release issued Friday the body found in the home has been identified at 79-year-old James “Bill” Wood. They say autopsy results show he died of multiple gunshot wounds to the head. Authorities say they are continuing to search for Wood’s wife, Kay. They also are continuing to search for a person of interest in the case. The Woods’ home was destroyed by fire on July 30. The Woods were not immediately located but their pickup truck was found the next day in Kansas City.
