St. Joseph Steeple To Come Down Thursday

(Le Mars) — The famous steeple of the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Le Mars is scheduled to come down on Thursday morning.  Crews are scheduled to dismantle the steeple as part of the demolition of the church.  Sixth Avenue northeast from Plymouth Street to First Street Northeast and Plymouth Street from Sixth Avenue East to Seventh Avenue East will be closed on Thursday starting at 6:00 a.m.  The roof of the church has already been removed.  Margie Moir serves as a lay pastorial director for St. Joseph’s.  She says the old church has served the community well.
