Sun Glare Contributes To Accident
(Le Mars) — The early rising sun glare may be partially responsible for an accident that occurred at about 7:30 Saturday morning. A pick up truck carrying construction equipment rear ended a semi tanker trailer owned by Anthony P and L trucking firm of Le Mars. The accident happened at the junction of County Road C-38 and Lake Avenue, near the Anthony trucking firm headquarters. The 5,000 gallon stainless steel tanker was empty during the collision. The pick up truck’s front end was totally damaged. The pick up had the driver and two passengers. One passenger sustained injuries and was transported to the Floyd Valley Hospital by the Le Mars Ambulance. The names of the drivers and injured victim have not been released. The accident is under investigation by the Plymouth County Sheriff’s office.
Competing Forces Campaign On Judge Retention
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Competing campaigns will crisscross Iowa next week in support and opposition to state Supreme Court Justice David Wiggins.
Both tours will begin Monday morning at the state Capitol, then head out for stops throughout Iowa.
The Gazette reports the Iowa State Bar Association is joining with other groups for a “Yes Iowa Judges” tour through 19 communities. The tour supports all the judges up for retention in
November, including Wiggins. He faces a campaign for his removal because he joined in a unanimous 2009 ruling that legalized gay marriage in Iowa.
The Family Leader and other groups seeking Wiggins’ removal plan a four-day bus trip through Iowa.
The Family Leader led a campaign that resulted in the ouster in 2010 of three justices who supported the gay marriage ruling.
Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds Travels To Germany
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds begins an economic and cultural mission to Germany on Saturday to discuss trade, education and other topics.
Reynolds will meet with business, educational, and medical leaders. Among government officials she is scheduled to meet with are German Vice Chancellor Philipp Rosler and the U.S. Ambassador
to Germany Philip Murphy.
Meetings will be in Dresden, Lommatzsch, Leipzig, and Berlin.
Organized by the National Lieutenant Governors Association, the seven-day mission includes five U.S. lieutenant governors and is hosted by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, a Germany-based group
focusing on encouraging democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.
