UNDATED (AP) – The N-F-L’s regular officials are expected to work
tonight’s game between the Ravens and Browns after the league and
the referees’ union reached a tentative contract agreement this
morning. The deal still had to be ratified by the 121 union
members, but it should end a labor impasse that began when the
officials were locked out in June. Negotiations heated up after a
missed call cost the Green Bay Packers a win at Seattle on Monday
night.

Osborne calling it quits
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – Tom Osborne, who put together one of the
most successful coaching runs in college football history before
serving in Congress and taking the reins as Nebraska’s athletic
director five years ago, is retiring.
The 75-year-old Osborne announced his decision Wednesday at a
news conference and said he will retire on Jan. 1, sticking around
for several months as needed.

(DENISON) — The Le Mars Bulldogs built a 24-0 halftime lead and then held off a second half charge by Denison-Schleswig to win 24-21 at Denison Friday night, spoiling the Monarchs homecoming. Junior quarterback Levi TeBrink hit on 10-of-11 passes and two touchdowns in the first half while running for another score to put Le Mars in the drivers seat at the midway point. But Denison-Schleswig got three big plays out of homecoming king, T.J. Pauley to pull within striking distance by the fourth quarter. Pauley hauled in an 87-yard TD-pass from Derek Hall midway through the third quarter and added a two-point conversion run by Justin Kahl to cut the Bulldogs lead to 24-8. Le Mars fumbled at their own 15 three plays after the kickoff and Hall capitalized by hooking up with Pauley on a 34-yard pass to make it 24-14. Hall and Pauley again connected on a short pass completion in the final quarter and Pauley pitched the ball to Justin Kahl on a well executed hook-and-ladder play, turning it into an 80-yard touchdown play to draw the Monarchs to within 24-21. The Denison-Schleswig had one more chance with a minute to play from their own two yard line but turned the ball over on downs. Le Mars scored on four of their five possessions in the first half. TeBrink’s quarterback sneak from a yard away started the scoring in the first quarter. TeBrink fired a five yard TD-pass to Chris Hatting to make it 14-0 at the end of the opening quarter. TeBrink hit Gabe Rahn with a 60 yard TD-pass with 1:42 to play in the first half and Conner Delfs’ 32-yard field goal with 25 seconds to play before halftime gave the Dogs their 24-point lead. TeBrink finished the game 11-of-16 passing for 189 yards. Le Mars improves to 5-and-1 for the season and 3-and-1 in the district. The Bulldogs host Humboldt in a non-district game next Friday at Jim Lorenzen Field in a 7:30 kick-off.
(LE MARS) — A record-setting passing performance by junior quarterback Blake Wiltgen rallied Gehlen Catholic to a 54-15 homecoming victory over winless Okoboji Friday night at Jim Lorenzen Field. After spotting the Pioneers a 9-6 first quarter lead, Wiltgen launched seven touchdown passes and finished 26-of-46 passing for a school-record 387 yards. Michael Whitehead hauled in six of those scoring passes and finished with 13 catches for 265 yards. The Wiltgen-to-Whitehead combination hit on scoring passes of 25, 45, 21, 14, 20 and 30 yards. Wiltgen’s seventh TD pass was to Aaron Jentz ten seconds into the fourth quarter. Fabio Rivera added a school-record 45-yard field goal early in the third quarter for Gehlen and also had a 23-yard kick split the uprights in the second half. The Jays finished with 525 yards of offense. Gehlen’s second straight win improves the Jays record to 2-and-4 for the season and 2-and-2 in the district. Gehlen Catholic travels to Hull next Friday night for a key district match-up with Western Christian. The game, which will be carried on KLEM, should go along way toward the Jays’ playoff hopes.
