Sioux City Police Looking For Homicide Suspect
(Sioux City) — Sioux City Police and authorities in South Dakota are searching for a suspect in a weekend homicide after a body was discovered in Lincoln County, South Dakota. Police say a man was shot early Sunday morning at 1420 West 15th Street on Sioux City’s westside.
The victim’s body was found in a ditch near Canton, South Dakota on a gravel road five miles east of I-29.
Police say the victim’s body had been set on fire. Lincoln County Sheriff Dennis Johnson says the victim is a man in his 20’s. His body was found by a passer-by Sunday morning. Authorities are searching for 20 year old Martin Castellanos. He is a 5’8″, 180 pound Hispanic male who may have a light mustache. He may be driving a silver 2003 Audi A4 with Iowa license plate number 892YSD.
In custody and charged as an accessory is 22 year old Ricardo Jaime Vital of Sioux City. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity.

(Le Mars) — Congressman Steve King says he invited the Texas Senator to Iowa for his annual “Defenders Of Freedom” fundraiser because Cruz shares a belief that is similar to King’s point of view.

Governor Branstad Launches Water Quality Website
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Gov. Terry Branstad has launched a new state website that he says will help encourage efforts to reduce water pollution in Iowa.
Branstad announced the website Monday. He says it will provide information to rural and
urban residents as part of a wide-ranging approach to enhancing water quality in the state.
Iowa recently came to a deal with federal authorities to inspect more livestock farms
and strictly enforce penalties when manure leaks into rivers or streams. That came after a
long dispute over enforcing the U.S. Clean Water Act.
Environmental groups note that 479 lakes, rivers and streams in the state are listed as
impaired by the EPA. A wet spring this year caused some rivers in central Iowa to record the
highest nitrate levels ever.
Deer Run Into Shops And Home
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Iowa homeowners and shoppers were startled this weekend when deer
smashed through the glass to come inside in two separate incidents.
In Mason City, a deer broke through one of the glass doors to Younkers at the Southbridge Mall around 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
Sgt. Tiffany Creekmur says the deer was stuck for a few minutes between the inner and
outer doors to the store. It was also bleeding and appeared dazed.
But that deer recovered from its shopping trip enough to run off.
In Des Moines, a deer leapt through the front window of one family’s home and then broke another window to get out Saturday afternoon.
Kate Buckley says the whole incident was terrifying. The deer was gone before animal control officers arrived.
Iowa City Man Poses As Police Officer
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) – An Iowa City man has been accused of dressing up as a police officer and checking personal identifications at a bar.
Iowa City police say they received a report shortly after midnight Sunday about 41-year-old Carlos Escorcia checking customers’ identification cards at The Union Bar.
The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports (https://icp-c.com/19N1ZMw ) Escorcia wore a dark blue police T-shirt. Police say he also wore a duty belt with a replica revolver, a silver badge and old Iowa City police patches.
Police arrested Escorcia and seized some of his items. He has been charged with impersonating a public official and public intoxication. He has been released from the Johnson County Jail.
Court records do not list an attorney.

Former Police Officer Charged With Sending Sexual Explicit Photos To Minor
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – A former South Carolina police officer has been released from custody while awaiting trial on charges that he sent explicit photos of himself to a 13-year-old Iowa girl.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Ross Walters in Des Moines approved the release of 30-year-old Andrew Haney under several conditions Friday, which include having no contact with the alleged victim.
Authorities say Haney was a West Columbia police officer when he met the girl through a social media website last month. They say they identified Haney after he sent the girl a photo with his police badge with the state seal visible in the photo. He’s charged with transferring obscene materials to a minor.
West Columbia’s police chief has said Haney has been fired.
