ST. LOUIS – The Boston Red Sox have a three-games-to-two lead in the World Series and can wrap up their third title in 10 seasons as early as tomorrow night. Jon Lester allowed one run and four hits over 7 2/3 innings to pitch the Bosox to a 3-1 win over the Cardinals in Game 5 at St. Louis last night. David Ross doubled home the tiebreaking run in the seventh, and David Ortiz went 3-for-4 with an RBI double to raise his series batting average to .733.

ST. LOUIS – The Seahawks still own a one-game lead over San Francisco in the NFC West following Seattle’s 14-9 triumph at St. Louis. Russell Wilson tossed a pair of TD passes to Golden Tate, including an 80-yard score to put the Seahawks ahead 14-6 late in the third quarter. Seattle improved to 7-1, and the Rams dropped to 3-5 despite Zac Stacy’s 133 yards on 24 carries.

(HARLAN) — Quarterback Adam Juhl scrambled eleven yards for a fourth quarter touchdown to snap a 14-all tie and number-five Harlan escaped an upset bid by Le Mars, 20-14 Wednesday night in the opening round of the Class 3A playoffs. Levi TeBrink led Le Mars to a pair of first quarter touchdowns, running two yards for one score and throwing ten yards to Tyler Borchers for another to erase a 7-6 deficit. TeBrink added a two-point run after the second score and Le Mars’ 14-7 lead after the first quarter stood at halftime. Harlan tied the game at 14-14 with Nate Gettys’ 34-yard touchdown run in the third quarter following a diving interception by Connor Clayton at the Bulldogs 44 yard line. Juhl’s winning score came with 10:31 to play and capped a ten-play, 74-yard drive. The extra point was missed, opening the door for a Le Mars upset. But the Cyclones’ defense halted a pair of fourth quarter drives by Le Mars that ended at the Harlan 26 and later at the 39 on downs. Nate Gettys led a 338-yard Harlan running attack with 281 yards on 41 carries and two touchdowns. The Cyclones finished with 400 yards. Levi TeBrink paced Le Mars with 74 yards rushing on nine carries and threw for 113 yards on 12-of-27 passing. Le Mars ends the season at 3-and-7 while the 9-and-1 Cyclones move into the second round Monday night, hosting Carroll. Carroll handed Harlan their lone loss 14-7 in late September.

WORLD SERIES – GAME 6

BOSTON – The Boston Red Sox are World Series champions for the third time in 10 seasons after beating the St. Louis Cardinals 6-1 in Game 6. Shane Victorino opened the scoring with a three-run double in the third and added an RBI single to help the Bosox clinch a World Series at home for the first time since 1918. Stephen Drew hit a solo homer and John Lackey carried a shutout into the seventh before the Red Sox secured their eighth World Series crown.
BOSTON – Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz was named the MVP of the World Series after carrying an offense that hit just .211 in the six games. Ortiz struck out in the clincher for the only time in the series, but he also scored twice and was walked four times, three intentional. He ended up with a .688 batting average, a .760 on-base percentage, two homers, six RBIs and seven runs scored.
