Branstad To Visit Le Mars Today
(Le Mars) — Iowa Governor Terry Branstad is scheduled make a stop to the “ice cream capital” today. Joining Branstad on his Le Mars visit will be Texas Governor, Rick Perry. Perry, was a candidate for president, during the last election, and there is wide speculation Perry, a republican, will again make a run for the White House. Meanwhile, Branstad is seeking re-election for a sixth term as Iowa’s governor. The two governors will appear at the Blue Bunny Ice Cream Parlor at 3:45 p.m. today, and are scheduled to be there for an hour. This is Perry’s third trip since November to Iowa, which kicks off presidential voting.
Branstad To Sign Medical Marijuana Bill On Friday
(Des Moines) — Meanwhile, speaking about Governor Branstad, he has announced he will sign into law the bill making canibus oil legal for medicinal purposes. Branstad says he will sign that bill on Friday from the state capitol building in Des Moines.
Hard Rock Casino To Open August 1st
(Sioux City) — Sioux City’s Hard Rock Casino is getting ready to rock. General Manager Todd Moyer says the Hard Rock will offically open to the public on Friday night, August 1st at 8:00 p.m. Moyer says an army of workers are continuing to make progress on preparing the casino for its grand opening.

More than 835 slot machines have arrived and are being installed at the casino being constructed at 3rd and Water Streets in the west end of downtown Sioux City. The casino is currently hiring over 500 people to work in their $128 milllion dollar facility.

Moyer says activities for the grand opening are still being finalized, but will be announced soon. Tickets go on sale this Saturday online at the Hard Rock casino Sioux City website for several upcoming concerts, including the Goo Goo Dolls, Little River Band, B.J. Thomas, Smash Mouth and 38 Special.
Missouri River Historical Development Anxious For Casino To Open
(Sioux City) — No local group is looking forward more to the August 1st opening of Sioux City’s Hard Rock Casino than Missouri River Historical Development. Mark Monson, president of the non profit license holder of the casino, says MRHD will soon be able to start awarding grants to Woodbury County agencies again when the Hard Rock opens.

MRHD normally receives a percentage of casino revenues as the license holder, but their former partner, the Argosy Riverboat Casino, stopped paying MRHD funds several months ago. That money is being held by the Argosy and their parent company, Penn National Gaming, in a separate account. The Argosy Casino hs also filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Flag Poles Stolen
CARROLL, Iowa (AP) – Officials in western Iowa are investigating the theft of hundreds of metal flagpoles used for the Memorial Day holiday.
The American Legion in Carroll says it reported the theft of a trailer from its property Monday morning. The trailer had about 300 flagpoles that were supposed to be placed with American flags to line the roads of the city cemetery.
The Legion says a second trailer with a few hundred more flagpoles was stolen Monday night.
The trailers and flagpoles were later recovered, though no arrests have been made in the case. Legion officials believe the thief or thieves were trying to sell the flagpoles for scrap metal. A least two Carroll area salvage yards refused to buy the roughly 550 flagpoles.
