Sioux City Police Arrest Suspect Thought To Have Robbed Great Southern Bank
(Sioux City) — Sioux City Police have arrested 22 year old Jonathan Birdnecklace of Sioux City as a suspect they believe may have been responsible for robbing the Great Southern Bank earlier Thursday morning. At about 9:00 a.m. a single suspect entered the bank taking an undetermined amount of cash. No weapon was seen and the suspect was seen walking northbound on foot from the bank. Birdnecklace was charged with one count of Robbery in the second degree. Cash stolen from the bank was recovered in his possession. The bank has been secured by officers and detectives investigating the incident. Police officers were able to pick up Birdnecklace as a suspect on the near northside area shortly after the robbery.
Chamber To Sell Holiday Dollars On Saturday
(Le Mars) — The Le Mars Chamber of Commerce wants to remind area residents that the Chamber Holiday Dollars will go on sale this coming Saturday, November 1st in the Lower Level of the Le Mars Convention Center. Beginning at 8:00 a.m. a total of $204,000 will be sold in three different categories. People can save up to 10 percent on the Fareway, Hy-Vee, and Wal-mart dollars, and a savings of 15 percent for the retail and restaurant categories. Scott Pagler is a member of the Chamber Promotions Committee. He says the program was established a few years back to encourage shoppers to buy locally.

Pagler says this year’s amount of $204,000 is the most offered since the program started. He says local businesses and banks were willing to contribute more money to help with consumer savings.

The Hardware Hank business owner says the program has indeed been successful. He has heard of many people tell local business owners how they have used their allocation of holiday dollars.

Holiday dollars will be sold in $100 increments. Pagler says only cash or local checks will only be accepted, no debit or credit cards. He says there are three grocery or supermarkets and a total of 16 retail businesses and 10 restaurants and/or fast food establishments that are participating in this year’s holiday dollar campaign.

Shoppers have until December 24th to redeem their Le Mars Chamber holiday dollars.
Accidental Shooting
RED OAK, Iowa (AP) – Authorities say a southwest Iowa man is in critical condition after accidentally shooting himself in the face.
Red Oak police say 28-year-old Cody Allen Keith Tunnell was handling a weapon Wednesday night when it went off. He told authorities he thought the weapon was unloaded. Authorities say they also interviewed witnesses.
Tunnell was taken to a local hospital before being airlifted to the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Tunnell is listed in stable but critical condition as of Thursday morning.
The shooting remains under investigation.

Train Collisiion
CLINTON, Iowa (AP) – A train collision involving a tractor has injured a man in eastern Iowa.
The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office says 65-year-old Thomas A. Olson, of Calamus, was driving a tractor Wednesday morning across a railroad just south of U.S. 30 when an attached grain auger got stuck on the railroad signal arms.
Authorities say Olson tried to stop the train by waving his arms but eventually returned to the tractor. The train struck the auger and sent the tractor off the tracks. Olson was ejected through a side window.
Olson was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. His medical condition was not available Thursday morning.

Audit Shows West Liberty Overbilled Electric Customers
WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (AP) – An audit says the city of West Liberty overbilled its electric customers by nearly $260,000.
The state audit released Thursday shows the city’s former administrative secretary instructed the utility staff to use the wrong base rate for charging. The extra money was charged for billing periods between May 2013 and January of this year.
The audit also shows records for utility, ambulance and other collections were not adequately kept. The former secretary, Maribel “Mari” Pearson, was responsible for those records. She was fired from her job in November 2013.
The audit has been sent to the Muscatine County Attorney’s Office and other state agencies.
