(Le Mars) — Nearly 160 people attended the Family Fun Night as hosted by the Clark Elementary School as part of the Le Mars Community School District. Various activities such as story-telling, arts and crafts, dancing, and creating a structure using marshmallows and toothpicks filled the evening for parents and students alike. As for implementing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) into the evening, the students viewed a video of the famous story involving the three little pigs and the big bad wolf. You no doubt remember the fairy tale as the three pigs each constructed a home that they believed would stand up to the wolf’s hot air. The first home was made of straw, and the second was made of sticks, and the third home was made of bricks. Following the viewing, the students were then asked to create a structure using toothpicks and marshmallows that would withstand the hot air of the big bad wolf. In this case, a hair blow dryer served as the breath of the big, bad, wolf. Children had to use their imagination and creativity in order to create the structure so it could withstand the blowing of hot air.
Franklin and Kluckhohn Elementary Schools will hold their “Family Fun Night” on Tuesday evening, October 11th beginning at 6:00 p.m.
