(Le Mars) — The heavy snow that has struck northwest Iowa is responsible for at least one major accident that has shut down the traffic on Highway 3, about two miles east of Le Mars. The accident was reported at about 12:35 p.m. and remained closed for at least a couple of hours. The accident involved two vehicles and there were two injuries. No other information is known at this time. Many local schools, businesses, and industries have closed their doors early due to the winter storm. Wells Enterprises, Bo-Deans, and I-M-L Containers have called off their night production shifts. As of 3:30 p.m. Le Mars had received four inches of the white, fluffy stuff with the forecast calling for as much as 12 inches of snow before the front moves completely through the area.
