Todd Wendt To Retire After Serving 17 Years As School Superintendent

(Le Mars) — Monday evening’s Le Mars Community School Board meeting will be the last for School Superintendent Dr. Todd Wendt. Wendt announced last autumn that he will retire as of June 30th. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Steve Webner will then become the superintendent of schools, beginning July 1st. KLEM news recently visited with Dr. Wendt to reflect on his 17 years as the school district’s head administrator. We began by asking Wendt what was it about the Le Mars Community School District that had attracted him to the position?

Prior to arriving at Le Mars, Wendt had been a school superintendent at Avoca School District, and had been a principal at Cherokee, Mason City, and Farragut. Wendt says he is proud of the academic achievements by the students of the school district, and he credits the many excellent faculty members.

During Wendt’s 17 years with Le Mars Community, there have been facility upgrades, and expansions. Wendt says the expansions have helped make Le Mars Community schools an even better school district.

Wendt says he has had the pleasure and privilege, to work with some quality-minded school board directors during his tenure. He says the school board has always had the school’s best interest in mind.

Wendt says he is excited for Dr. Steve Webner to work with the current school board members, and says the quality effort continues.

The outgoing school superintendent says Le Mars Community has a great reputation and he says many of his fellow colleges across the state are often envious.

Wendt says you cannot have a great school district without having a great community, and a wonderful place to raise a family. He says the school is simply a reflection of the community at large. Wendt says he has had the best job in the state of Iowa, with the best school district, and living in the best town. Wendt says he considers Le Mars to be home, and he and his wife Betty, will remain in the community. Betty will continue to serve as a principal for the Hinton Community School District. As for what is next for the retiring school superintendent? According to him, he has to catch up on loss fishing opportunities.
