Gehlen Girl’s Track Overcomes Challenges to Make 2021 State Track

The 2021 State Track and Field meet is getting underway on Thursday at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. The Gehlen girl’s track team will send six events to state track this year, and, for Head Coach Travis Westhoff, it has been rewarding due to the challenges his team has faced.

Despite those challenges, Westhoff knows that his team is motivated to run their best in Des Moines due to the legacy laid before them at Gehlen.

The Gehlen girl’s track team faced many challenges, but getting the girls on to the track was not one of them.

Sophomore thrower Miyah Whitehead will participate in the shot put and discus in Des Moines. Westhoff says that, even though this is her first trip to state, she knows what it takes to be successful.

The Gehlen Girl’s Track team will send six events to state. That includes:

  • 100m Hurdles – Prelims at 4:30 PM Friday
  • 400m Hurdles – Finals at 6:10 PM Friday
  • 4x100m Shuttle Hurdle – Prelims at 8:30 PM Thursday
  • Distance Medley – Finals at 3:30 PM Friday
  • Discus – 3:00 PM Friday
  • Shot Put – 3:30 PM Thursday
