Le Mars Girls Basketball Wins Fifth Straight Behind Skov’s 32 Points

The Le Mars girls are playing some outstanding basketball, and they continued that with a win on Saturday over Dakota Valley by a score of 74-51.

The win was Le Mars’ fifth win in a row. The Bulldogs put together a list of milestones at the beginning of the year, and one of them was to win five games in a row. Head Coach Cody Dyhrkopp says getting that checked off the list fired the team up.

A large part of why the Bulldogs were able to come away with the win came from the offensive output of Metta Skov. The junior got into a rhythm scoring 32 points on 12-21 shooting from the field. Coach Dyhrkopp says that performance is impressive considering the unselfish nature of her play.

The other part of the offensive success was Le Mars’ ability to get to the free throw line. The Bulldogs ended the game shooting 15-18 from the charity stripe. Coach Dyhrkopp says that comes from hard work in practice.

Going back to that milestone list, the Bulldogs have another one they can check off before the holiday break. That is beating a ranked opponent. The Bulldogs host the fifth-ranked Crusaders of Bishop Heelan on Tuesday. It’s the same squad that ended the Bulldog’s season last year. Coach Dyhrkopp says the team is excited to take the court on Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs also got double-digit scoring outputs from Sarah Brown with 18 and Lexi Hurd with 14. The Bulldogs improve to 5-2 with the win.
