Remsen St. Mary’s Football Defeats Boyer Valley in Two Quarters Due to Lightning

The Remsen St. Mary’s football team only played 24 minutes of football due to lightning on Friday. Thankfully, they used the most of it to pick up their fourth win to remain unbeaten with a 12-7 victory over Boyer Valley.

On either end of the time in the game, the Hawks were strong getting a score right away to start the game and getting a late score in the second quarter to win the game. Remsen St. Mary’s head coach Tim Osterman says it shows his team has some ability to fight back when they are behind the eight ball.

The Bulldogs proved to have a good gameplan for slowing down the Hawk offense. Coach Osterman says that meant his team could move the ball but were not able to sustain drives very long throughout the first half.

Coach Osterman points to the passing game as something that needs just a little tweaking to get everyone on the same page. That was inevitable with the amount of experience and coordination graduated off last year’s offense. He says this timing issue involves all eight guys on the field.

The Hawks are now 4-0 overall and 2-0 in their district with the win. They also improved their winning streak to 17 games dating back to the beginning of last season. Coach Osterman says the guys can not start thinking about a repeat run to the title game. He says they have to continue looking at things week by week to get the most out of this season.

Remsen St. Mary’s will be at Newell-Fonda to begin the second half of the season. The game will be played in Newell.
