No. 10 Akron-Westfield Football Shuts Out Alta-Aurelia to Keep Perfect District Record Intact

The Akron-Westfield football team continued their run towards an undefeated district title on Friday night with a 25-0 win over Alta-Aurelia.

The Westerners have not gone undefeated in their district since 2008 and have fallen on hard times as of late missing out on the playoffs in each of the last four years. First-year head coach John Sievert has helped bring the program back to its winning pedigree and says it has been because of the work the players have put in.

Akron-Westfield improved to 6-1 with the road win over Alta-Aurelia. The Westerners have been a well-balanced offense this season but have been successful on the ground lately. Coach Sievert says the guys tried working on their passing attack early against Alta-Aurelia to make sure they were firing on all cylinders late in the season.

On defense, it was Akron-Westfield’s first shutout of the year due in large part to holding the Warriors to just 10 yards passing. Coach Sievert says his defense is disciplined and always knows where the football is to make a play.

The Westerners finish off the regular season this week with a trip to Paullina to take on 1-6 South O’Brien. Akron-Westfield could easily take the week off and go in with less than 100% effort knowing they are firmly in the playoffs. Coach Sievert wants his guys to make sure they continue viewing every week as an opportunity to improve and get a win.

The Westerners and Wolverines will kickoff at 7:00 PM on Friday night in Paullina. Akron-Westfield will find out their first-round playoff opponent on Saturday morning at 10:00 AM. By virtue of being district champs, Akron-Westfield is guaranteed a minimum of two home playoff games for their postseason run.
