The Kingsley-Pierson football team won a critical district matchup on Friday night in Kingsley defeating Remsen St. Mary’s 36-34.
The win was K-P’s first over Remsen St. Mary’s since the 2015 season. It also follows a season in which the two did not play due to RSM’s injury concerns. Head coach Travis Neumann says the excitement was real after a thrilling comeback and win.
The Panthers trailed 20-8 going into the halftime break putting them in a tough hole to dig out of against a good team. Coach Neumann says his team did not get very many chances to possess the ball which limited their scoring chances.
Right away in the second half, the Panthers became a scoring machine. They outscored RSM 14-0 in the third quarter and outscored them 28-14 overall for the second half. Coach Neumann says the second half was an exercise in the power of momentum in sports.
The Panthers were down 34-30 late when they needed to find their way downfield to score a game-winning touchdown. They accomplished that with Eli Schroeder hitting Jack Seglem for the go-ahead touchdown on fourth down with just 11 seconds left in the game. Coach Neumann says the guys did a great job of executing down the stretch.
With the win, Kingsley-Pierson improves to 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in the district. K-P has plenty of tough district games to play still, and Coach Neumann knows his guys should not enjoy this one for too long since they have another tough game this week.
Kingsley-Pierson hosts Newell-Fonda on Friday night at 7:00 PM to cap off a week of homecoming festivities in the community.
