The MMCRU boys track team competed in their fifth team scoring meet on Thursday night at the Hinton Blackhawk Invite. The Royals captured their fifth meet win of the season scoring 132 points to take home the title.
MMCRU got wins in everything from long distance to long and short relays and in jumps. It showed the depth that the Royals have been able to enjoy all season. Head coach Colin Youde says it was great to see even more athletes on the team find their stride.
Lucas Braun swept the high jump and low jump championships on his way to securing individual titles. He also was part of the champion 4x800m Relay team and the third place 4x400m Relay team. In total, Braun helped account for 36 team points. Coach Youde says his confidence helps him be a leader on the team.
The running events have always featured the long-distance runners for the Royals. On Thursday night, MMCRU got some of their sprinters going to some better finishes as well. Coach Youde says that came down to simply getting them healthy once again.
The craziest part of this massive winning streak for the Royals is that they are not even going out there with the goal of maximizing points. Coach Youde says the philosophy remains the same whether they are winning meets or not scoring anything. That philosophy is to simply get better by being extremely competitive.
The Royals are back in action as a team in Alta on Monday, April 22. They will then finish the year with three of their final four meets at home including the War Eagle Conference meet on April 29.
