Eckstaine Records 300th Win as Le Mars Community Baseball Head Coach

Wednesday night’s game one win over Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson was the 300th career win for Trent Eckstaine as the head coach of Le Mars Community baseball.

Eckstaine has been in the baseball coaching world for nearly three decades and has spent 18 seasons at Le Mars Community. To be in this position this long, he says you have to be able to have some light-hearted moments with the players.

Eckstaine’s journey into coaching started with a coach believing in him and helping provide him the opportunities to do what he wanted to do. Now, Eckstaine says he gets to help the kids he coaches get into the world of coaching and be a positive impact in a community.

There are many fundamental things Eckstaine has tried to instill in his team so they can go out and win a few games here and there. As he has continued in his career, he has realized that stuff is important, but, ultimately, it is more important to focus on being a positive influence in a young person’s life.

Prior to Le Mars, Eckstaine spent time in Sioux City with stops in Des Moines and his first head coaching gig at South Hamilton. He has now spent more of his coaching career in Le Mars than at all of his prior stops combined. He says the program and the community just felt right.

The 300 wins were an afterthought on many occasions for Eckstaine who chalks up that milestone to simply being around a long time.

The second game of the doubleheader brought Eckstaine’s win total up to 301 games where it sits following the scheduled games this week.
