ONE PERSON DEAD AFTER REPORTS OF GUNFIRE
Le Mars Officers responded early Monday morning to reports of a disturbance with possible shots fired. Upon arrival to 37 3rd Avenue NW, Apt. 1 in  Le Mars, officers located Miguel Martinez, age 21, with wounds consistent of being shot.  He was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical examiner. No suspects were found at the home and the investigation is ongoing.
The Le Mars Police Department was assisted by Le Mars Fire Rescue, the Plymouth County Sherriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Rock Valley Police Department, and the ATF.  No other information is being provided currently due to the ongoing investigation.

CITY COUNCIL MEETING TODAY
 
The Le Mars City Council Meets at noon today and will consider setting public hearings for several major projects including the Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Plan Project.  The completed project would address current high chloride discharges from the wastewater process. The estimate for the project is $26,950,000 to be funded through bonding with final completion, if approved, set for June of 2027.
The Council will also consider establishing October 15 for a public hearing for the construction of a new well, a well house with all components, and site paving. Well #15 Project is estimated to cost  just over two point five million dollars, to be funded through bonding, with completion in August of 2026.
Also on the agenda is setting a public hearing for a new 12 inch watermain from the new Well #15 to the raw watermain at Well #14.  The estimate for this project is $727,000 with final completion in December of 2025.

SUPERVISORS MEETING
 
The Plymouth County Board of Supervisors meets this morning. Included on the agenda is an informational session concerning the Plymouth County Wind Urban Renewal Plan Amendment.

LEMARS NATIONAL NIGHT OUT
 
The Le Mars Police Department is hosting their National Night Out event this evening from 5:00-7:00p.m .  The community is invited to meet local law enforcement personnel and first responders. Equipment will be on display and a free meal will be served.  The event takes place at the Le Mars Police Department, 205 5th Avenue NW in Le Mars.

CLAY COUNTY FAIR NUMBERS
 
Attendance was down, but spending was up at this year’s Clay County Fair.  Fair Officials say total attendance over the nine days of the 2024 fair was 297,999.  That’s down from 318,678 in 2023.
Grandstand shows drew 14,549 attendees, with the two largest crowds for concerts by Trace Adkins and Justin Moore.
Clay County Fair goers spent an all-time record of $3,306,667, topping last year’s record by almost $290,000.

THE BIG GIVE
 
The seventh annual Siouxland Gig Give campaign is taking place today (Tuesday.) The event, hosted by the Siouxland Community Foundation is an online day of giving, spotlighting nonprofit organizations.  You may donate to any of over 95 charitable organizations which are participating, including several in Le Mars and Plymouth County.  The online giving allows individuals to make an online donation at a minimum of $10.
