The Remsen St. Mary’s boys basketball team engaged in a ranked battle in Remsen on Thursday night. The fourth-ranked Hawks fell to the fifth-ranked West Lyon Wildcats by a score of 59-41.
The Hawks got off to a nice start leading throughout a majority of the first half. Co-head coach Justin Ruden says shots were falling early in the game giving the guys confidence.
Unfortunately, shots could not fall consistently. West Lyon ended the first half and started the second half on an 18-3 combined run to go up 11 points. The Hawks were unable to come back once their offense sputtered. Of Remsen St. Mary’s 41 points, 31 were scored by either Collin Homan or Sam Schmillen. Coach Ruden says even with a light roster, other guys have to find a way to get going offensively.
Now with the first loss of the year out of the way, the Hawks will be able to get a proper look at what needs to be better. Coach Ruden says offensive execution will be a big focus heading into 2025.
The Hawks are now 4-1 on the season. They finish 2024 at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn tonight.
