Akron-Westfield girls golf dominates through tough conditions to advance to region final

The Akron-Westfield girls golf team won their regional opening round meet in Le Mars on Friday shooting a 375 beating all opponents by at least 47 strokes to advance to the region final.

The weather was not very cooperative for an easy day of golf with cold weather and windy and rainy conditions playing a factor in the competition. Head coach Steven Husk says the girls were locked in early on and played a great round.

Like a lot of the Westerners’ wins this season, everyone came to play well. Akron-Westfield had three of the top four scorers individually for the meet. Coach Husk says the girls have been very consistent to keep scoring this low.

Akron-Westfield now heads to the region final in Primghar on Wednesday where they will look to qualify for state for the fourth season in a row. Coach Husk says there are just a few things the girls can get better on leading up to the competition.

That region final in Primghar will take place on Wednesday, May 21.
