Chris McGowan Announces His Run for The 4th Congressional District and Visits KLEM

Siouxland Chamber of Commerce President and 4th District Candidate Chris McGowan; On Wednesday, at KLEM after his announcement to run for office

Siouxland Chamber of Commerce president Chris McGowan is running for Iowa’s Fourth District Congressional seat. McGowan stopped by KLEM yesterday (Wednesday) morning to talk with our Dave Grosenheider after announcing his intention to run. McGowan is the first Republican to launch a campaign in the district represented by Republican Congressman Randy Feenstra, who’s taken steps to run for governor.

McGowan is a Sioux City native, a veteran of the Iowa Air National Guard and an attorney who leads the private, non-profit Siouxland Initiative. McGowan told Dave he will bring a commitment to the farmers and families of Iowa if he is elected to the 4th Congressional District.

McGowan, who is 58 years old, is a fourth generation Iowan. His mother was raised on a farm near Fonda and his father grew up in Sioux City.

McGowan says he knows there are a lot of concerns about the tariffs President Trump has placed on agricultural commodities. But he believes the president is working to help farmers benefit from tariffs.

McGowan has also stated that he is opposed to the controversial new law in Iowa granting carbon pipeline developers eminent domain to seize land from unwilling property owners.

McGowan says he supports President Trump’s decision to bomb Iran. Iran had bombed Israel in retaliation for a prior Israeli strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria. McGowan says that America can never allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon.

Current 4th District Congressman Randy Feenstra of Hull has said he is staunch supporter of President Trumps “big beautiful bill.” The bill includes spending cuts, no taxes on tips, ramping up border security, changing Medicaid and one of the largest tax cuts in history. McGowan says the tax cuts are crucial for Americans.

Republican State Senator Lynn Evans, a retired superintendent from Aurelia, has formed an exploratory committee for a possible run for congress.
