The Hinton volleyball team had their 2024 season end in heartbreaking fashion in a region final with Boyden-Hull in five sets after leading the match 2-0.
Now, the Blackhawks are using that disappointing finish as fuel to get back to Coralville in 2025. Hinton co-head coach Robin Mohr says the team has higher goals this year and are determined to reach them.
The Blackhawks have the best of both worlds in returning a strong crop of starters and role players while also bringing in a group of freshmen that a lot of teams would crave to have. This will allow the Blackhawks to distribute the wealth evenly. Coach Mohr says that will keep defenses guessing in any given match.
Part of that strong crop of returning talent is Bailey Boeve. After tearing her ACL and MCL midway through last year, she is back into the rotation and determined to have an impact in 2025 for her senior year. Coach Mohr says Boeve is ready to compete but may need a few matches to get back into the groove.
Of all the spots on the floor that returns talent, libero is not one of them. Ava Vondrak took on that role last year, and the Blackhawks will need someone to take things over in that spot this year. Coach Mohr says that decision could come as late as the day of their first match.
The expectations for Hinton volleyball are high once again after missing out on state for the first time since 2021 last year. Early projections have the Blackhawks in the top five and as high as second in the state. Coach Mohr says getting cohesiveness early will help Hinton reach those lofty expectations.
Hinton opens the season on Saturday, August 30 with a tournament hosted by Unity Christian in Orange City.
