Le Mars boys golf scores first meet win of the year on home course

The Le Mars boys golf team opened their home season on Monday with a win over Lewis Central and Sioux City West at Willow Creek Golf Course.

The Bulldogs shot a 302 on their home course on a beautiful day weather-wise. Outside of the rain that came down the night before, things were business as usual for Le Mars. Head coach Nick Knapp says that helped the guys play loose.

The 302 total the Bulldogs shot beat their score from the first match by 37 strokes. All four scoring golfers came in under 80 for their individual score. Coach Knapp says after replacing a lot of seniors, the jitters were there early, but his guys bounced back nicely in meet two.

The individual medalist went to Drake Brownmiller who shot a 73 to lead the way. He has totaled Le Mars’ lowest score in the first two meets, and Coach Knapp says that comes down to his business-focused mindset.

Le Mars will continue to compete in tough MRAC meets all throughout the season with the conference proving to be pretty deep once again. To play their best, Coach Knapp says they have to have a strategic mindset going into their next shot.

The Bulldogs continue the season on Thursday with a meet at Sergeant Bluff-Luton.
