Le Mars boys wrestling opens 2025-26 season with a split decision in MRAC duals at home

The Le Mars Community boys wrestling team finally started their season on Thursday night, and they did so with a pair of MRAC home duals.

Prior to the start of competition for the Bulldogs, vibes are high in the Le Mars wrestling room. Head coach Shane Hessenius says this has been a tremendous start to the year with guys invested in what they are working on.

In the first dual, Le Mars fell to No. 21 Council Bluffs AL by a score of 55-18. With the Lynx ranked heading into the dual schedule, the Bulldogs knew they would be up for a challenge. Coach Hessenius says the kids still did a great job fighting through a tough dual.

In the second dual, Le Mars beat Sioux City East in a close one by a score of 40-34. Things were intense early on after an illegal slam was called negating a Le Mars wrestler’s effort in the early weight classes. That led to a very physical dual the rest of the night. Even so, the Bulldogs found a way to come out on top. Coach Hessenius attributes that to some experienced seniors that lead the way for the team.

Le Mars heads into the rest of their competition schedule starting this weekend with a loaded tournament hosted by Sergeant Bluff-Luton. Coach Hessenius says this was a good way to open up some opportunities to clean things up early on.

Le Mars starts the season off with a 1-1 dual record in the MRAC and overall for the season.
