The Gehlen Catholic girls basketball team played their first game of 2026 and recorded their first win of 2026 with a 52-25 victory at Trinity Christian on Friday night.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Jays made the Tigers turn the ball over at well with a suffocating press that was hard to break. Head coach Brandon Schaecher says that defense was impressive considering his team did not foul very much throughout the game.
Gehlen has averaged fewer than 40 points per game throughout the first portion of the season, so the emphasis during the time off was build some consistency on offense. Coach Schaecher says it was great to see the girls act on that practice and consistently score against the Tigers.
The schedule gets pretty tough right away for the Jays who have three games next week, and two are against state-ranked competition. Coach Schaecher says the Jays need to worry about what they do well to put together a good performance against good teams.
Gehlen’s matchup vs No. 5 Hinton is set for 6:00 PM on Tuesday night. KLEM Radio will broadcast the game live.
