Le Mars girls basketball closes regular season with road loss to Spencer

The Le Mars girls basketball team concluded its regular season with a loss to Spencer on the road on Friday night by a score of 65-49.

Le Mars was in control early on leading the game 17-15 at the end of the first quarter. That came after Le Mars figured out Spencer’s pressure and how to score against it. Head coach Sidney Ruden says her team was doing everything they were told to do to attack the press.

In the second quarter, things flipped back in Spencer’s favor as the Tigers took a seven-point lead into the locker room and expanded that to a 20-point lead heading into the fourth. Coach Ruden says Spencer switching defenses threw her team off.

Le Mars closes the regular season with an 8-13 record. They get set for a third matchup this season with Sergeant Bluff-Luton on Wednesday in the opening round of the postseason. Coach Ruden says after giving up 65 points against Spencer, she needs to see some defensive intensity pick up when it matters most.

Tip-off between the Bulldogs and Warriors is set for 7:00 PM on Wednesday night in Sergeant Bluff. KLEM Radio will broadcast the game live with coverage beginning at 6:45 PM. If the Bulldogs beat the Warriors, they will play Spencer again on the road on Saturday at 7:00 PM.
