The Le Mars girls basketball team opened the regional postseason with a road victory over Sergeant Bluff-Luton by a score of 66-60.
The Bulldogs found themselves in a rut in the first 30 seconds of the game. They were trailing SB-L 4-0 and had turned the ball over multiple times to open the game. Head coach Sidney Ruden says her team had to be loosened up after a tense start to the game.
After that timeout, Le Mars was rolling offensively. The Bulldogs shot 54% from the field and 19-22 from the free throw line with all five starters scoring at least 10 points in the win. Coach Ruden says that kind of performance can take you a long way in the postseason.
After taking a double-digit lead in the second quarter, Le Mars had to withstand many charges from SB-L that saw them close the gap to as little as two points. Coach Ruden says she was proud of the way her team responded to those challenges.
Le Mars advances to the regional semifinal with a record of 9-13 where they will take on Spencer on the road on Saturday. After losing to the Tigers last Friday, Coach Ruden says adjustments have to be made ahead of the matchup.
Le Mars and Spencer will tip off their regional semifinal matchup at 7:00 PM on Saturday night. KLEM Radio will broadcast the game live starting at 6:45.
