Hinton girls basketball advances to region final after convincing win over MVAOCOU

The top-ranked Hinton girls basketball team continued their quest for a repeat with a 68-36 win on Friday night over MVAOCOU in a regional semifinal.

The Blackhawks got off to a slow start letting MVAOCOU hang around within 7-10 points for most of the first. Hinton head coach Matt Leary says his team was doing some uncharacteristic things that were hurting them early.

In the second half, Hinton started to look like themselves once again. The Blackhawks outscored the Rams 21-4 in the third quarter on their way toward building a significant lead. Coach Leary says he was seeing his team take care of more of the little things throughout the second half.

Hinton advances to the regional final where they will look to return to state for the second year in a row. They take on the No. 15 Earlham Cardinals in Denison on Wednesday night. Coach Leary says the girls have been in these situations before, and they know how to handle adversity that may come their way.

Tip-off between the Blackhawks and Cardinals is at 7:00 PM on Wednesday night in Denison. Coverage begins on KLEM Radio starting at 6:45 PM.
