The Le Mars Community boys soccer team picked up a nice bounce-back win on Thursday night defeating Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley 2-1 in Le Mars.
The Bulldogs gave up a goal in the first half and was not playing a very strong brand of soccer as they trailed 1-0 into the break. Le Mars head coach Blake Fehringer says the Bulldogs were not playing up to their standard in the first half and had to reset in the second half.
Le Mars found the back of the net with 18 minutes to go in the second half when Degi Kabongo connected on a breakaway scoring opportunity. Kabongo says his teammates put him in a great position to score that goal.
Kabongo says his speed separates him from other players and helps him creates stellar scoring chances.
The score flipped in Le Mars’ favor just five minutes later when Kabongo again found the back of the net on a very similar play to the first. Kabongo says good communication and passing made the difference in that scoring chance.
The goals brought Kabongo’s total to seven on the season. After following in his brother Jovany’s footsteps last year, Degi is starting to take a bigger offensive role this year. Coach Fehringer says he is happy to see Degi’s work pay off and lead to success.
The Bulldogs improved to 3-2-1 with the victory and will have another matchup right away with West Sioux coming to town. Coach Fehringer says resting is very important, and it is why his guys missed an opportunity in a back-to-back situation last week.
Le Mars’ matchup with West Sioux is set to begin at 6:30 PM at Jim Lorenzen Field.
