The Le Mars Community boys tennis team edged out a close 5-4 dual win over Estherville-Lincoln Central on Thursday night at home.
In each of Le Mars’ first three duals, the final score was 9-0 with many matches decided early. Le Mars head coach Michael Bahr says having a competitive dual early in the season was big for his team.
The competitive matches began right away with Tye Penne and Jaxson Albrecht picking up a tiebreaker win in the first doubles court. Coach Bahr says that paired with the second court doubles win gave the Bulldogs a big jolt going into the singles.
In singles competition, the Bulldogs picked up wins from Ian DeRuyter, Jaxson Albrecht, and Omar Camas. Coach Bahr says all of them possess different skills to make them tough to match up with.
Le Mars continues their tour of the Lakes Conference next week with three-straight matches against teams in the Lakes. Coach Bahr says he wants his team to pinpoint a few areas they can improve upon heading into the next week of duals.
Le Mars now sits at 2-2 on the season and will be at Cherokee for a dual on Monday night.
