For the second year in a row, the MMCRU boys golf team won the War Eagle Conference Tournament title shooting a 324 at Willow Creek in Le Mars on Monday.
The top five teams in the meet all finished within nine strokes of MMCRU’s score showing some good competition. Head coach Mark Schuttler says this is a tough tournament to win which makes the victory that much more special.
Some Royals struggled early in the meet with the high wins that plagued the first few holes. That included Kamden Bork who was +7 over the first four holes of the meet. He went on to stay at even par over the next 14. Coach Schuttler says his leadership has been great.
Owen Lennon was one of MMCRU’s top golfers shooting a 79 and finishing in fourth place. Coach Schuttler says Lennon had been dealing with an injury, and he was not sure if he could even golf in the meet.
The Royals turn their attention to the south where they will be competing against many new faces in Red Oak at the sectional meet on Wednesday. Coach Schuttler says he is going to rely on his seniors to help bring the team along for some tough competitions and tough travel.
Should the Royals advance out of the sectional meet, they will compete in the district meet on Monday, May 18 in Shenandoah.
