19th annual Tour de Plymouth takes place this weekend
Cyclists from across Plymouth County and beyond will take part in the annual Tour de Plymouth this weekend. Speaking to KLEM, Plymouth County Cyclists treasurer Mark Sturgeon gave a rundown of what bikers can expect from Sunday’s event.
Four different rides are offered to cyclists: a short route of 13.4 miles, a gravel route of 24.8 miles, a long route of 61.8 miles, and a century route of 103.8 miles. Sturgeon says most riders will utilize the PlyWood Trail during the Tour.
This is the 19th edition of the Tour, and Sturgeon says it’s the most important event on the calendar for the Plymouth County Cyclists.
Registration for the Tour de Plymouth is open online at plymouthcountycyclists.org for $30 a person, with most riders departing from the Wise I Brewing Company in Le Mars starting at 9am on Sunday.

Le Mars man sentenced in December gun incident
A Le Mars man who pointed a loaded gun at three police officers in December has been sentenced to 10 years and 300 days in jail.
44-year-old Brandyn Scott Doss will serve 300 days with credit for time served, with 10 years of his sentence suspended by district judge Zachary Hindman. Doss pleaded guilty to five charges, including assault on persons in certain occupations while displaying a deadly weapon, going armed with intent, first-degree harassment, assault while displaying a deadly weapon, and false imprisonment. As part of a plea deal, two of the counts he was charged with were dismissed.
The charges came as a result of an incident between Doss and three Le Mars police officers back in December. Police were called to a residence on Second Ave NW in the early hours of December 14th, following up on a report of an argument between two men. According to the police report and court documents, Doss answered the door pointing a loaded 9mm Taurus handgun at three officers, and was arrested after the officers told Doss to put the gun down. Doss reportedly told officers they would be shot if they didn’t have a warrant or invitation.
Prior to the officers’ arrival, Doss allegedly pointed the gun at another man in the residence for nearly 4 minutes and had previously threatened to kill two family members via text message.
Doss will serve his time in the Plymouth County Jail.
