Walk for the Future
“Walk for the Future” benefitting The Iowa SIDS Foundation was held over the weekend on Saturday at the Le Mars Municipal Park Shelter House.
Walk Coordinator Alyssa Bendickson says 128 walkers registered for the event and approximately $27,000 was raised through sponsorships, a silent auction, raffle, and the bake sale. Funds raised will benefit the Iowa SIDS Foundation for family support, education, and research.
The annual fundraiser featured a memorial program with balloon send-off before the walk, followed by a lunch by the Plymouth County Pork Producers, Hy-Vee, and Wells Enterprises.
Ho-Chunk to hold Groundbreaking for South Sioux City Casino
A groundbreaking is planned for this Thursday for a new casino in South Sioux City. Ho-Chunk Incorporated says the official start of construction for the Warhorse Casino will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at 4501 G Street.
Warhorse Casinos have been operating for the past few years in Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska.
The Lincoln Casino is currently undergoing a major expansion.
Northwest Iowa Community College Recognized Among Top Community Colleges in the Nation
Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon has received national recognition for the quality, value, and outcomes it provides for students.
CollegeXpress named Northwest Iowa Community College #3 on its list of the Top 20 Community Colleges in the United States. CollegeXpress is a college search and planning resource providing students with college and scholarship search tools, information, advice, and college rankings. Its Top 20 Community Colleges list draws from WalletHub research comparing hundreds of community colleges across the country.
NCC also continues to stand out for what happens after students leave college. In WalletHub’s latest Best & Worst Community Colleges study, Northwest Iowa Community College ranked #8 in the nation for Career Outcomes. The Career Outcomes ranking considers student-loan default rates, median earnings after attending college, and the percentage of former students earning more than the average earnings of a high school graduate.
WalletHub’s study compares more than 600 community colleges across a variety of indicators related to cost, education, and career outcomes.
Community Coffee Wednesday
The Wednesday Chamber of Commerce Community Coffee will be held tomorrow morning at Greenfield Auto Specialties- located at 875 Prospect Street SW in Le Mars from 9:30 till 10:30.
