The Hinton football team returned to the playoffs for the fourth year in a row last year going 6-4 and bowing out in the second round of the playoffs.
It has become a standard for Hinton to be a playoff team over the last few seasons, and this year’s group is looking to continue that standard. Head coach Kadrian Hardersen says this group has already showed a determined work ethic to get there again.
The Blackhawks will look vastly different from last season with just about everyone on both sides of the ball graduated. Coach Hardersen says this has opened the door for many different players to get some playing time.
One of those positions that graduated is the quarterback position. The last two Blackhawk quarterbacks have been stellar rushers with Gabe Anderson and Cole Friessen each rushing for over 1,000 yards from that spot. Duncan Mathiason is set to take the reins of the Blackhawk offense this year, and Coach Hardersen says Mathiason’s strength will be his arm.
The Blackhawk defense is all new as well with many new starters that will be defending the end zone on Friday nights. Coach Hardersen says the depth that the defensive unit has shown will be a strength going forward.
Hinton has a tough road ahead of them with two defending state champions on the schedule this year in MMCRU and West Lyon. The four teams that qualified out of Hinton’s district last year for the playoffs all won a game in the postseason too meaning it is a very tough competitive group of teams. Coach Hardersen says to play well, his guys need to keep composed night in and night out.
