Data Center Concerns
At Tuesday’s Plymouth County Board of Supervisors Meeting, Chairman Don Kass told the board that the issue of the construction of data centers came up during the annual conference of the Iowa Association of Counties held in August.
Kass told us that decommissioning these facilities needs to be addressed.
He says this needs to be considered in any future agreement.
Kass called this a complicated issue that includes zoning rules.
In June of this year, the Supervisors approved a one year revocable moratorium on the construction of data centers and industrial battery storage in Plymouth County.

Remembering Paul Sitzmann
Funeral Services for a former member of the Plymouth County Board of Supervisors will be held on Friday. Paul Sitzmann, who served on the board from 1999 to 2006 passed away on Sunday, August 30th, at the age of 94. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday (September 4) at All Saints Parish- St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars.

Assistant Police Chief Sworn In
Bob Rohmiller was sworn in as Assistant Police Chief of Le Mars by Mayor Rob Bixenman during a ceremony in the City Council Chambers Tuesday morning at 11:30. Rohmiller has been on the force since 2016.

City Council approves funding for Battle of the Bands event
A discussion about an action item at the Le Mars City Council session on Tuesday resulted in the allocation of $7,500 from the Hotel/Motel Sales Tax Committee to Le Mars Community Schools Music Boosters for their second annual Battle of the Bands.
The event is expected to host 16 bands, over 700 students, with over 1,500 spectators on Saturday, September 19th, with the University of South Dakota Marching Band set to perform. The request for funding was after the HMST Grant Committee deadline by eight months.
Mayor Rob Bixenman set the tone for the discussion. He understood the case from both the Grant Committee and the LCS Music Boosters but emphasized that he “wants to see this event succeed.” Other council members also voiced their desire to allocate funding for the event while validating the issue from both sides. Several members also pointed out the revenue that the city would generate from the event.
