Danika Portz Pays Tribute to Dolly
Remsen native and Nashville singer/songwriter Danika Portz says Dolly Parton was a major influence in her career.
In an interview with KLEM Radio Portz paid tribute to the talent of the Country Super Star.
She says Dolly Parton was the inspiration for her song “Holly Dolly Christmas”
Danika told us that Nashville is mourning along with the rest of the nation.

Tourism Funding Awarded to the Engage Le Mars’ 2026 Bash Live Concert
The Bash Live at the Olson, organized by Engage Le Mars, has been awarded $7,000 from the Hotel/Motel Sales Tax receipts from the City of Le Mars.
The 2026 concert will be a family-friendly free live concert that includes 3 bands, food trucks and a beverage garden at the Olson Cultural Event Center in downtown Le Mars on Saturday, September 19th from 4:00-10:30 pm.
Mitch Christoffel, President of Engage Le Mars stated, “We are very excited for this year’s Bash Live concert on Saturday, September 19th. We wouldn’t be able to make this free family-friendly event happen without the support from the City of Le Mars and our sponsors. We look forward to bringing a fun-filled day of great live music to downtown Le Mars at the Olson Event Center.”
Event-goers are welcome to bring lawn chairs to enjoy live music in the green space at the Olson Cultural Event Center from the hours of 4:00 PM to 10:30 PM. There will be several food vendor options, including: Mexican food, sub sandwiches, burgers, pizza by the slice, Asian cuisine, kettle corn, & dirty sodas. There will also be a beer garden for individuals 21 and older.
All proceeds go back to offering entertainment during Engage Le Mars concerts. Bands that are featured at this year’s event include: • Dane Louis, Diamond Avenue , and Not Quite Brothers.
Iowa 143 to Marcus at Highway 3 Closed for Construction
Drivers on Iowa 3 and Iowa 143 should expect to follow a detour to reach Marcus from now until the end of October, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Sioux City construction office.
Crews completing the last phase of the roundabout construction at the intersection of Iowa 3 and Iowa 143 closed Iowa 143 on Monday of this week.
- Crews will maintain at least one lane of traffic on Iowa 3. A single lane of traffic will be controlled by temporary traffic lights.
- Cherokee County Road L-36 will remain closed until the project is completed.
- A lane-width restriction of 10 feet and a height-limit restriction of 15 feet will be in place.
During the closure, motorists will follow a marked detour route
