The Remsen St. Mary’s volleyball team hosted a competitive War Eagle Conference triangular on Tuesday night beating Gehlen Catholic and losing to Akron-Westfield with both matches ending in four sets.
The Hawks were a bit flat in most aspects on the court on Tuesday night as they could not consistently get the job done throughout both matches. The fact they were able to pick up a win against Gehlen was a bit surprising to head coach Stacy Bunkers who says her team did not play with a lot of confidence.
The Hawks were able to finish the match thanks to some strong offensively play from Hallie Bunkers and Sophia Harpenau. Coach Bunkers says those two were trying to take control of things throughout the night.
In the Akron-Westfield matchup, the Hawks could not get out of their own way at times. Even with a plan on how to rebound and bounce back, the Hawks were forced to go back to square one all match. Coach Bunkers says her team was trying to make adjustments, but nothing was working consistently.
The Hawks will look for a bounce back in a War Eagle Conference matchup on the road in George on Thursday night. Coach Bunkers says the girls have some great volleyball IQ, and that will help them find the necessary things to work on before their next match.
First serve between Remsen St. Mary’s and George-Little Rock is at 7:00 PM on Thursday in George.
