The Gehlen Catholic volleyball team won one and lost one in a triangular in Remsen on Tuesday night. The Jays fell to No. 14 Remsen St. Mary’s in four sets and beat Akron-Westfield in three sets.
This is the first time War Eagle Conference teams have competed in a triangular in some time making this a different challenge for the teams in attendance. Gehlen Catholic head coach Jessie Bohnenkamp says two tough matches paired with some heat trapped in the gym made it a challenging night.
The Jays were able to make an impact on the serving line tallying double-digit aces as a unit in both matches. Coach Bohnenkamp says her team’s aggressive serving made a difference.
On a long night, it is important to have some different players step up throughout the night. Emmi Castle seemed to do that having to play a few different positions and roles throughout the night. Coach Bohnenkamp says Castle adapted to every curveball thrown at her.
The Jays return to the War Eagle Conference grind with an always tricky matchup at Hull against Trinity Christian. Coach Bohnenkamp says the Jays got a valuable lesson in starting strong against good teams with their performance in Remsen.
The Jays and the Tigers compete on Thursday night with first serve at 7:00 PM.
