For the second time in three years, the Le Mars Community girls golf team won the Missouri River Activities Conference girls golf tournament.
The Bulldogs did that on Monday shooting a team score 356 at Floyd Park Golf Course in Sioux City. Head coach Dave Irwin says the achievement is more remarkable considering the extra work his team has to go through to get better.
After some tough meets leading up to the MRAC Tournament, and a rough start to the day, the Bulldogs found a way to respond and finish strong. Coach Irwin says he was impressed with the team’s ability to regroup after a tough stretch.
Ella Lang was a pleasant surprise for the Bulldogs as she finished ninth in the field with a 92 and on the All-Conference second team. Coach Irwin says Lang has struggled throughout the season, but she is getting into a groove at the right time.
With the MRAC meet wrapped up, the Bulldogs have just one more meet prior to their regional meet next week. Coach Irwin says the girls have figured out their game, and he needs them to continue what they have been doing heading into the meet in Spencer.
Le Mars competes next on Monday in Sioux City at Green Valley Golf Course. They will then compete in Spencer on Wednesday next week in the Class 3A regional meet.
