Fire Department Responds To Downtown Apartment Call

(Le Mars) — On Saturday evening, September 5th at about 7:50pm the Le Mars Fire-Rescue Department was called to 36 ½ Central Ave. N.E. for a report of smoke on the second floor of the downtown building.   The building is owned by John Koley of Le Mars.   Upon arrival firefighters encountered smoke in the upstairs second floor hallway.  Firefighters made entry and removed a person from Apartment #4 and two people from Apartment #1.   All three people were checked by the Le Mars Ambulance and released.   Firefighters found food on fire in an oven in apartment #4.  Apartment #4 was occupied by Doug Blackmore.   Firefighters extinguished the fire and ventilated the building and allowed the residents back into the structure.  The incident attracted a crowd of nearly 40 spectators to the downtown scene. 
Firefighters were on scene for approximately 30 minutes.
Firefighters were assisted at the scene by the Le Mars Police Department, Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, Orange City Fire Department and the Merrill Fire Department was on stand-by.
