(LE MARS)–The information is gathered to help Le Mars residents follow sump pump rules.
The Le Mars City Council earlier this year set an amnesty through this year for residents who had connected sump pumps to the sanitary sewer system.
City administrator Scott Langel explains the latest round of rainfall has sparked a renewed interest.

(REMSEN)–A heritage of faith is celebrated in Remsen this weekend.
The Quasquicentennial Anniversary Mass of St. Mary’s Parish will be celebrated by Bishop Walker Nickless of the Diocese of Sioux City tomorrow (Sunday) morning at eleven. There is also a mass at the historic church at four this afternoon.
Rick Roder of St. Mary’s says throughout its history the parish has had a very ethnic character with its Luxembourg and German heritage. German words are written underneath the Stations of the Cross and in stained glass windows.
Roder says the people who built the church were the very best available in the midwest in the early 1900’s.

The parish organ has not been modified in how it plays since it was built in the late 1890’s. To some, he says the church may seem like a small museum in a certain way even though all the items are sacred.
There will be historical displays.

THE SECOND ORDINANCE PROVIDES THAT VICIOUS ANIMALS ARE ILLEGAL AND REQUIRES OWNERS TO REMOVE THE PET FROM THE CITY OR AUTHORIZE EUTHANASIA.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) Prison officials say a Sioux City man sentenced to 25 years in prison for killing his wife has died.
Department of Corrections spokesman Fred Scaletta says 51-year-old Timothy Sohler died on Wednesday at University Hospitals in Iowa City. Sohler was an inmate at the state prison in Anamosa.
Scaletta says the cause of death is unknown. An autopsy was done on Thursday, but toxicology tests could take up to four to six weeks.
Sohler was charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of his wife in their home in December 2008.
He pleaded guilty last October in Woodbury County District Court to attempted murder and willful injury.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) The hard-line conservative who finished second in this month’s Republican gubernatorial primary isn’t ruling out a third-party run for the office.
Sioux City businessman Bob Vander Plaats hasn’t spoken publicly since losing the June 8 primary. He broke his silence Friday in an interview on Des Moines radio station WHO.
He says he won’t make a decision on a third-party bid until talking further with GOP nominee Terry Branstad.
Vander Plaats finished second to the former governor earlier this month.
Vander Plaats says supporters may try to nominate him to be Branstad’s running mate Saturday at the GOP state convention, though Branstad already has picked a running mate.
KNOXVILLE, Iowa (AP) Authorities say two people have been killed and two others injured in a head-on collision in Marion County.
The accident occurred about 5:45 a.m. Friday near Knoxville.
The dead have been identified as 27-year-old Curtis James Temple II of Centerville and 51-year-old David Keith Burton of Exline. Both were passengers in a car driven by 30-year-old Jeremy Glenn Smith of Centerville.
Smith was transported by air ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines for his injuries.
The driver of the second car, 23-year-old Amanda Ann Bridgman of Oskaloosa, was transported to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines with undisclosed injuries.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) A Polk County jury has found 21-year-old Matthew James Grady of Des Moines guilty of first-degree murder in an August 2009 fatal shooting.
The jury convicted Grady on Friday despite his denial that he had anything to do with the shooting of 37-year-old Stephen Scott.
Scott was shot through the back while behind the wheel of his car last Aug. 17. The car then crashed into a tree.
Prosecutors say Grady admitted to police that he was in Scott’s car about 10 minutes before the shooting.
But a defense attorneys argued that Grady got out of the car before the shooting.

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) A 10-year prison sentence has been handed a man accused of shooting another man outside a Sabula tavern.
David Zabransky pleaded guilty to the Nov. 22 shooting 46-year-old Sheldon Woodhurst of Sabula outside the Lucky 7 Bar in the Jackson County community.
In handing down the sentence, Judge Paul Macek lamented the 10 years Zabransky will serve is light, adding it’s the most he could give the man.
Woodhurst was shot in the abdomen after a disturbance at the bar, the cause of which was not immediately known. The victim’s wife, Carla, told the court her husband will never recover the muscles in his stomach damaged by the shooting, and that their lives were changed forever.
Zabransky’s attorney said his client was remorseful, but Zabransky did not apologize in court.

Man gets 30-year sentence for shooting at cop
WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) A 30-year prison sentence has been handed a Waterloo man for allegedly shooting at a police officer following a July traffic accident.
Black Hawk County jury found Darnell Garrette Demery guilty last month of attempted murder, felon in possession of a firearm, assault on a peace officer and related charges.
In handing down the sentence Thursday, District Judge Bruce Zager called the 22-year-old Demery a threat to the community with an extremely violent history. He said Demery’s behavior was inexcusable.
According to authorities, police approached Demery after a hit-and-run accident. He handed over his drivers license but then ran off before he could get a ticket.
Prosecutors say that when Officer Spencer Gann chased him, Demery turned and fired his gun.
Demery will have to serve 70 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
