Rock Branch Methodist Church 125th Anniversary

(Correctionville) — Even though the town of Rock Branch doesn’t exist anymore, the Rock Branch Methodist Church does, and it has since 1887.  The celebration of the 125th Anniversary is an exciting time for it’s 80 some current members, as they’re expecting over 225 people this Sunday.

Member Janice Murray tells us about the history of the church.

At that time the pastor living in that parsonage was probably only making $400 a year.  Murray joked that they do pay a bit more now.
In 1920 the church was moved toward the back of the lot and rooms were added, this building is the current church building. The cost of the renovation those 90 some years ago was $20,000.  The parsonage was torn town in 1958.

There are a few 5 generation families at the Rock Valley church, including the Sadler’s, the family who gave the land, and Bohle’s, which is the last name of Janice’s mother.

Currently Rock Branch and Anthon United Methodist church share the some pastor: Reverand Ben Wilson.  Janice Murray tells us this congregation is more than willing to lend a helping hand.

The Thanksgiving Ingathering that she referred to is a program that provides school and health kits for families in need.

The celebration of 125 years at Rock Branch Methodist Church starts off with a 10:30am service. A history and a poem reading about the church precedes the roast beef dinner at noon, and is followed by a cemetery walk.  A 2pm program includes music by the Sadler Family who play instruments from saws to strings and will be followed by an ice cream social.
Congratulations on 125 years to the Rock Branch United Methodist Church.
