(LE MARS) — The top two seeds in the boys district one 1A tournament advanced with quarterfinal round victories Thursday night at the Gehlen gym.  Top-rated Gehlen Catholic improved to 22-and-0 with a 51-43 win over a scrappy Remsen St. Mary’s team that battled the Jays right down to the wire.  Gehlen led by just four points with 27 seconds to play when Alex Kellen connected on all four foul shot opportunities to seal the victory.  The Jays never led by more than ten points against a Hawks team they had beaten by 24 and 21 points during the regular season.  Blake Wiltgen led Gehlen with 19 points, 17 coming in the second half, and Kellen finished with 14.  Freshman Colin Schroeder led the Hawks with 14 and Matt Wesselmann added 11.  St. Mary’s closes the season at 9-and-13.  Gehlen plays the winner of the Marcus/Meriden-Cleghorn vs. Lawton-Bronson game Tuesday in Cherokee.  The MMC/Lawton-Bronson game in Moville was postponed to Saturday.
