(Le Mars) — The Plymouth County Fair will begin celebrating its 75th anniversary starting on next Wednesday. Officials indicate the 4-H animal project entries are holding strong. Ann Schoenrock serves as the co-coordinator with the Plymouth County Extension and Outreach.
A year ago, the avian bird flu prevented poultry producers from exhibiting their poultry projects at the county fair, as well as at the Iowa State Fair. Schoenrock says this year, many of the would-be exhibitors from last year are back with their chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, and other poultry or bird exhibits.
Schoenrock says 4-H beef entries are nearly steady with previous years, running at about 100 head, but she says the dairy entries have grown significantly.
Plymouth county has traditionally had a large swine show, and the Extension official says this year is no different that previous years.
Schoenrock says the small animal entries, such as rabbits and pets, have increased for this year’s fair.
Livestock entries must be weighed and tied, or in their pens by noon on Wednesday.
