FOUND!! Rural Akron Man Missing For Nearly 17 Hours

(Akron) — An 82 year old rural Akron man that was reported missing since Saturday evening was found Sunday afternoon in a corn field. Family members say Stewart “Skip” Harris left his home Saturday evening riding his all terrain vehicle at around 9:30 p.m. to check on irrigation units. The family became concerned this morning when they noticed he hadn’t returned home. John Harris, the son of the missing elderly man explains the
timetable.

Harris says it wasn’t until this morning that they realized his father had been
missing through out the evening. The family began looking for their father, and
had located the ATV, but couldn’t find the missing man.

Harris was located in a cornfield at about 2:12 Sunday afternoon, nearly 17 hours
since he was last seen. He was in good condition, aside from being exhausted, and
dirty and dehydrated. The Akron ambulance transported Harris to Mercy Medical
Center in Sioux City for observation. Officials believed Harris was somewhere
within a corn field near the intersection of Plymouth County road C-12 and Highway
12, about four miles north of Akron, near the Plymouth and Sioux county line. More
than 150 people from various emergency agencies, along with several volunteers
concentrated their search within two corn fields Sunday. When rescuers brought the
senior citizen to the command area, he was met with applause by the volunteer
searchers, grateful for the fact he was found alive and well.
