Northwestern College To Have New Science Center

(Orange City) — Northwestern College at Orange City broke ground today for a new 61,000 square foot health and natural sciences center. The complex will cost the college more than $24.5 million dollars, but Dr. Greg Christie, president of Northwestern College, says the last two million dollars was able
to be raised just this week.

Construction is scheduled to begin May 1st with completion of the new science and health center expected to be finished in August of 2018. Christie says the new science center will definitely help with recruiting students with either natural sciences or health related majors.

The college president says because of the new complex, Northwestern has expanded its list of majors, and may also in the future offer graduate level
courses.

Christie says that nearly one-third of the 1,260 student enrollment at Northwestern are students currently with health or natural science majors pursuing degrees in biology, chemistry, nursing, biochemistry, ecological science, or genetics, molecular and cellular biology.The eco-friendly facility will also include increased space for student and faculty research.
