Beat The Heat!!

(Le Mars) — With temperatures soaring past 95 degrees, with one temperature sign indicating a high of 102 degrees, and the heat index is rated above 107 degrees, people all over Le Mars are seeking refuge from the scorching heatwave. The National Weather Services has issued an Excessive Heat
Warning for Plymouth County, and for many counties in northwest Iowa.
The Excessive Heat Warning is in effect until 9:00 p.m. Saturday, June 29th.
An Excessive Heat Warning means that prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity levels will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are likely. Drink plenty of fluids…stay in an air conditioned room…stay out of the sun…and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

People were enjoying water recreation activities at both the Le Mars Public Swimming Pool and at the Kellen Ponderosa, located south of town. Some people chose to catch up on some reading inside the cool and comfortable air conditioning of the Le Mars Public Library. Still others, from as far away as South Dakota, Minnesota, and Carroll, Iowa, were enjoying America’s sweet
treat at the Wells Visitor’s Center and Ice Cream Parlor.
